Transport
Smart, green & integrated transport. Mobility for growth & automated road transport
Background
The Transport Helix was launched by Crowdhelix in June 2018, and is currently managed by the Community Management team. We are, however, seeking expressions of interest from leading researchers in the field to take a leadership role for this Helix from 2021 onwards.
Scope
Closely related to the activities of the Energy, Smart Cities, and Maritime & Marine Helixes, the Transport Helix provides an Open Innovation community for experts seeking international collaborators to carry out transport-focused research and innovation in the following areas:
- Low-carbon & competitive transport solutions
- Seamless, smart, safe, accessible and inclusive mobility systems
- Integrated services for passengers and freight
- Transport infrastructure, including urban infrastructure
- Autonomous transportation systems
- Innovative propulsion systems
- Innovative energy storage solutions
- Transport safety & accident response
- Digitalisation of transport systems
Policy
Research and innovation is at the core of developing new technologies for greener, smarter, more efficient transport means, as well as innovative solutions for safer, more sustainable and inclusive mobility. Transport R&I activities funded by the European Union in the field are also expected to contribute to reaching the global climate targets set by the COP 21 Paris Agreement, and to have an impact on the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Horizon Europe’s Cluster 5 (“Climate, Energy & Mobility”) also sets out a number of specific objectives for transport research & innovation in the EU, with the aim of supporting R&I activities that contribute to the EU policy goals regarding fighting climate change, as well as enhancing the global competitiveness of the European transport sector across all modes. Crowdhelix intends to align its own activities in support of this endeavour by helping to provide the widest possible access to collaborators across the many sectors and industries involved in the global transport innovation ecosystem.
