Laboratory for Renewable Energy Systems (LARES, www.lares.fer.hr/) is part of the Department of Control and Computer Engineering at University of Zagreb Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing. With more than 15 years of R&D experience in advanced optimal control algorithms, artificial intelligence and their practical implementations on different scales, as well as laboratory and living-lab environments, LARES is experienced in research projects execution (skilled in Horizon projects) and technology transfer projects with industry partners.

Built on the premises of control theory, artificial intelligence and their applications, LARES offers its expertise in the topics of: advisory and decision support systems based on cyber-physical modelling and machine learning approaches.

We are interested in joining a project consortium (as partners or work package leaders) and offering the following contributions for the respective Horizon 2022 calls:

- HORIZON-CL5-2022-D3-02-07 (Renewable energy incorporation in agriculture and forestry):
energy- and cost-efficient RES energy management (modelling, optimal control and grid integration), building microgrid with rooftop PV, hybrid energy storage and wind turbine emulator;

- HORIZON-CL6-2022-CIRCBIO-02-06-two-stage (Harnessing the digital revolution in the forest-based sector):
AI based decision support and advisory systems utilizing available historical data and weather forecasts for generating water demand predictions and water quality assessment and monitoring using system-wide measurements for efficient water distribution system operation and drinking water quality management;

- HORIZON-CL6-2022-ZEROPOLLUTION-01-04 (Securing drinking water quality by protecting water sources against pollution, providing innovative monitoring and treatment solutions and ensuring safe distribution):
AI based decision support and advisory systems utilizing available historical data and weather forecasts for generating water demand predictions and water quality assessment and monitoring using system-wide measurements for efficient water distribution system operation and drinking water quality management;

- HORIZON-CL6-2022-FARM2FORK-02-04-two-stage (Smart solutions for the use of digital technologies for small- and medium-sized, farms and farm structures); HORIZON-CL6-2022-CLIMATE-01-03 (Demonstration network on climate-smart farming – boosting the role of advisory services); HORIZON-CL6-2022-COMMUNITIES-02-01-two-stage (Smart solutions for smart rural communities: empowering rural communities and smart villages to innovate for societal change):
AI based modelling of agricultural processes, weather forecast localization and AI based advisory systems utilizing available historical data and weather forecasts for generating predictions and insight for crop yield forecasting, pest treatment and soil and crop plant state predictions.

LARES is firmly tied with the Innovation centre Nikola Tesla (ICENT, www.icent.hr/en/), which acts as a leading constituent of the innovation ecosystem for applied research and development in the field of engineering in Croatia and broader. This creates also an opportunity to either act as or include ICENT in the consortium if deemed necessary for creating a good innovation synergy and impact.
