Food
Agriculture & aquaculture, food security and safety, bio-based products & functional foods
Background
The Food Helix was amongst the third tranche of Helix communities launched by Crowdhelix in mid-2018. The Helix is led by Dr Manoj Dora, a leading expert in management within the agro-food sector and founder of the Circular Food Forum at the world-renowned Brunel University London.
Scope
Closely linked with the activities of both the Manufacturing Helix and the Climate Helix, Crowdhelix’s Food Helix provides an Open Innovation community for experts seeking international collaborators to carry out research and innovation in the following areas:
- Innovation in the agri-food sector
- Healthy diets
- Food security
- Sustainable agriculture
- Aquaculture & fisheries
- Bio-based industries & the bioeconomy
- Rural economies
Horizon Europe
Horizon Europe Cluster 6 (“Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture & Environment”) sets out a number of interrelated objectives for research & innovation activities across the food sector, including the establishment of primary production, food and bio-based systems based on sustainability, inclusiveness, and health and safety. Research and innovation is also expected to produce knowledge and innovative solutions to support evidence-based policy-making, implementation and monitoring, and to strengthen EU and international science-policy interfaces for improved governance.
The Food Helix is also oriented towards the activities of the Horizon Europe Mission “Soil health and food”, which aims to raise awareness on the importance of soils, to engage with citizens, to create knowledge, and to develop solutions for restoring soil health and soil functions.
Through promoting pan-European collaboration across the food sector and many related disciplines, Crowdhelix aims to support global R&I efforts to support the global transition towards an optimal and renewable use of biological resources, and towards sustainable food production and processing systems.
